Kamala Harris became the Vice President of the United States of America on January 20, 2021 after a lifetime of public service.

Harris was elected District Attorney of San Francisco, California in 2004 and Attorney General of California in 2011.

She was sworn in as a United States Senator for California in 2017, the second African American woman and first South Asian American senator in history. She served on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, the Select Committee on Intelligence, the Committee on Environment and Public Works, and the Committee on the Budget.

Vice President Harris was born in Oakland, California to parents who emigrated from India and Jamaica. She graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of Law.

On August 11, 2020, Vice President Harris accepted President Joe Biden's invitation to become his running mate and help unite the United States.

Kamala Devi Harris is the first woman, the first Black American, and the first South Asian American to be elected Vice President.
